The Super Morpher, Chapter 7: Reactions

Ryan walked down the street with Becky’s arm entwined in his, and he smiled at her. A night breeze ruffled the edge of Becky’s black dress. “You are the most beautiful woman in all of Leforn City, Becky, and I’m the luckiest guy to be able to spend the evening with you.”

Becky smiled, but it quickly changed from a smile to a pout. “Sweet talking isn’t going to get you on my good side. You said you were coming over last night.”

Ryan sighed. “I’m sorry, Becky, but something really important came up and I had to deal with it.”

Becky raised her eyebrows. “Was it something really important that you had to do with Jordan?”

Ryan chuckled, relieved that he didn’t have to come up with an excuse any more. “Yeah, that’s right. I was working on a project with Jordan, and the experiment turned unstable, and we had to um, stabilize it! Yeah, that’s what happened.”

Becky turned her nose up and grunted. “Maybe you want to take him out to dinner instead of me then.”

Sweat appeared on Ryan’s brow and he gave Becky a forced smile. “Are you kidding me? If we were going out, he’d be the one taking me out to dinner! He’s the one with the job.” Becky giggled, and Ryan relaxed. “I’d much rather have been with you last night, Becky. How can I make it up to you?”

A sly smile crossed Becky’s face. “I’ll let you know how you can make it up to me when we get back to my place, but here’s a clue; you aren’t going home tonight.”

Ryan smiled and laughed, “If that is your idea of a punishment, remind me to get in trouble more often.”

Becky reached over and rubbed Ryan’s chest. “You got it, mister, but you don’t have to get in trouble to spend the night with me.”

Ryan smiled and whispered, “I know, and it’s one of the many reasons that I’m glad you agreed to go out with me.” Becky grabbed Ryan’s head and pulled him down for a quick kiss, and they continued walking down the sidewalk, smiling at each other until they reached the end of the block. “I hope you’re hungry, because Regie’s has the best burgers in town!” Ryan pushed the door open and walked inside of the restaurant.

Becky hugged Ryan tight. “I love Regie’s! They have the best chocolate milkshakes too!”

The hostess smiled and picked up two menus. “I’m glad to see that you are so excited to eat at Regie’s tonight. If you’ll just follow me I’ll show you to your table.” The hostess led the way over a corner booth and handed each of them a menu once they sat down across from each other. “Have you both eaten at Regie’s before?”

Ryan nodded his head. “Many times.”

The hostess nodded her head. “Alright then. Can I start you off with some drinks?”

Ryan held up two fingers. “Two chocolate shakes, please.”

The hostess scribbled down some notes on her order pad. “Excellent choice; I love our milkshakes. Your waitress should be over shortly to take your order. Enjoy your time at Regie’s.”

The hostess walked away and Ryan started looking over the menu. This girl is crazy about me. Is it really fair that I’m keeping such a big secret from her? Maybe I should just tell her about what I was really doing last night. Ryan opened his mouth, but paused. Maybe telling her in the diner isn’t the best idea. I’ll tell her when we’re alone later. “What kind of burger are you going to order?”

Becky looked up and smiled. “I’m not sure. Their island burger is really good, but then there’s their famous mooey-gooey burger.”

Ryan closed his eyes. “Oooh, I think you just made me change my mind. I was going to get the diablo burger, but I don’t know if I can say no to a mooey-gooey burger. If a cow died to provide me with a burger, the least I can do is drown the meat in a pound of cheese.”

Becky laughed. “If those are your two choices, go with the mooey-gooey burger. I’m not sure I want to kiss diablo breath later.”

Ryan chuckled, “That settles it, the mooey-gooey burger wins, no contest. I wonder if I can at least get some diablo sauce on the side…”

Becky crossed her arms under her breasts and pouted. “You don’t want to do any kissing later?”

Ryan held up a box of mints and shook it. The box rattled revealing that there were many mints inside. “Not going to be a problem. I’ll eat the whole box after dinner if I have to.”

Becky laughed and clapped. “You certainly came prepared.” A devious look crossed Becky’s face. “I can’t wait to see what else you brought with you tonight.”

Ryan reached into his pocket and pulled out a stick of gum. “I bought some gum too, in case the mints weren’t enough.” Becky fell back into the booth laughing.

Ryan climbed up a ladder on the side of Becky’s apartment building on his way up to the roof, and Becky smirked down at him. “Admit it, Ryan. You weren’t being a gentleman by letting me go up first, you just wanted to look at my butt.”

Ryan grinned back. “I’ll admit that I’m about to trade one beautiful view for another.”

Becky stepped up onto the roof and winked at Ryan. “You just keep racking up the brownie points tonight, mister. What are you going to cash them in for?”

Ryan stepped up onto the roof next to Becky, and lightly smacked her bottom. “I’ll let you know later. I want to see how many more I can get yet tonight.”

Becky danced away from Ryan’s hand and sat down on a lawn chair that was kept up on the roof. “What are you doing to do now? Can’t get to my bottom when I’m sitting down!”

Ryan sat down next to her in a different lawn chair. He reached out and gently grabbed Becky’s hand. “I guess I’ll just have to hold your hand then.” Ryan leaned back in his chair and looked up at the sky. “Would you look at those stars? They’re easily the second most beautiful view in the city.”

Becky turned and looked at the night sky. “This is nothing. They’re even more amazing if you see them out in the country away from the lights.” Becky sat in silence admiring the view. She looked over at Ryan. “How are you doing in school?”

Ryan shrugged. “I’m keeping a solid B- average. The classes keep getting tougher, but having a genius as a roommate sure comes in handy when it’s time to study. I’d be completely lost in this whole school thing if it wasn’t for him. How about, you? Are you classes going well?”

Becky nodded. “A little better for me than for you, it seems. I’m pulling A’s in all my classes except for chemistry, where I’m getting a C. It doesn’t seem like it matters how much I study for the tests or how much time I spend on the homework, the stuff just doesn’t make sense to me.”

Ryan smiled. “Chemistry is Jordan’s specialty. Maybe he could figure out a way to make it easier for you to understand. He was able to do it for me.”

Becky sighed. “When am I supposed to find time for that? I already spend most of my time in class, and when I’m not there I’m working in the campus mail room!”

Ryan shrugged. “I’m sure we can find something that will work out for you. I took chemistry last semester, maybe we could find some time on our dates for me to try and help you with your homework.”

Becky gave Ryan and sly smile. “But that would take away from our time to do… more fun things.” Ryan laughed, and Becky’s face turned more serious. “So I’ve heard that you quit the football team.”

Ryan’s laugh died down and he said in a quiet voice, “Yeah, I did.”

Becky leaned back in her chair. “Why would you do that? Everyone knows how much you loved football. Football is what got you into college in the first place!”

Ryan sighed. Okay, I’ll tell her the truth. “I have a reason, and it’s a good one. Something big happened in my life lately, and I felt that it was time to focus more of my attention onto that instead.” Becky leaned forward and looked at Ryan expectantly. Oh my gosh, what will she think when she finds out I have powers? Will she still want to be with me? I don’t know if I can go through with this. “I’m thinking about getting a job. Having some extra money seems like a good idea, especially if I want to keep taking you out on dates like this.”

Becky gave Ryan a skeptical look. “You quit the football team because you’re thinking about getting a job?”

Ryan started rubbing the back of his head and laughed. “No, that would be silly! I’ve been applying to some places around town.”

Becky nodded her head. “I guess that’s a good reason. Yes, taking me out on dates sounds like quite the noble cause. This job you get had better be a good one though. No nights and weekends.” She gave Ryan a devious smile. “You belong to me on nights and weekends.”

Ryan laughed. “I’ll see what I can do about that, but I may not get a say in it.” Ryan leaned back in his seat, and Becky got up and sat on his lap, and started stroking his hair. The two of them stared up at the night sky, and Ryan pointed up at a light shooting across the sky. “Look, a shooting star! Make a wish!”

Becky cuddled up against Ryan. “I don’t need to. I have everything I could wish for right here.”

Ryan smiled, bent over and kissed Becky. Once their lips parted Ryan whispered, “What time does Samantha get home from work?”

Becky grinned mischievously. “Who cares, my room has a lock on the door.”

Ryan ginned back. “Let’s move this party downstairs then.”

Dr. Mechanique was sitting in front of his desk, tightening a screw on a prosthetic hand, papers and files scattered all over his desk. He finished tightening the screw and set the screwdriver down on the desk and inspected the hand. “Hmm, yes. I believe that these improvements should give the fingers greater nimbless than ever before.” Dr Mechanique set the prosthetic down on his desk and then grabbed his left wrist and pulled his prosthetic hand off. He set it on the desk and picked up the one he had just been working on when he heard a knock at the door. “The door is open.”

The door opened and revealed Jordan, who was holding a small cardboard box under his left arm. Jordan’s eyes opened wide at the sight of Dr. Mechanique holding onto his prosthetic hand, and he started to back out of the office. “I”m sorry to interrupt, I didn’t realize that you were busy. I can come back later.”

Dr. Mechanique chuckled. “Nonsense, Jordan. Please, come in. I was just about to test out a new enhancement that I designed for my prosthetics. Have you ever seen someone attach a prosthetic hand before?”

Jordan set the box he was carrying on a counter and stepped closer. “No, I never have, but I’ve always imagined it to be a very interesting process.”

Dr. Mechanique smiled at Jordan. “It would be much more interesting, and much more gruesome if this was my first time. You see this,” Dr. Mechanique held up his left wrist to reveal that his stump was covered with metallic plate with a port in the middle and multiple locking mechanisms around the outside of it. “Is attached to the stump that the prosthetic is going to be attached to. It is a very lengthy and painful process in which the all of the nerves in the missing limb are attached to sensors in the plate. Once that is done you will be able to control the prosthetic with your mind just like you would with the limb that is missing.”

Jordan nodded his head. “That’s amazing. Is the prosthetic able to feel things and transmit those stimuli to the brain to replicate touch?”

Dr. Mechanique frowned and he got a faraway look in his eyes. “That is an advance I’ve been working toward for some time, but one I haven’t been able to achieve yet. But someday, those who have lost a limb will be able to live as if they never had!” Dr. Mechanique smiled and shook his head. “Sorry, I was describing the process of attaching a prosthetic to you! If you look at part of the prosthetic that connects to the base, you’ll notice that it has special data receiving pins.” Dr. Mechanique showed the underside of the the prosthetic, revealing dozens of tiny pins sticking out, with one larger pin in the center. “These are delicate receivers, so you must be very careful when you attach your prosthetic, just like so.” Dr. Mechanique lined the pins up on his new prosthetic with the plate on his wrist and pushed it into place. He grabbed the outside of the plate and twisted it, and a click sounded.

Dr. Mechanique held his prosthetic hand up and started bending the wrist back and forth and wiggling the fingers. Jordan smiled and leaned back against the counter. “The world is so lucky to have a scientist like you working to restore what so many people have lost.”

Dr. Mechanique smiled at Jordan. “The goal of all scientists is to figure out how the world works and how to use that knowledge to improve everyday life. Now it’s time to find out if my modifications did what I wanted them to.” Dr. Mechanique swiveled in his chair and started typing on his keyboard. His smile turned into a frown. “No, that’s not quite right.”

Jordan took a step forward and watched Dr. Mechanique’s fingers hitting keys on the keyboard. “What’s wrong? Everything looks like it’s working just fine to me.”

Dr. Mechanique sighed. “I was attempting to improve the nimbleness of the fingers on these prosthetics, which I did, but not to the degree I wanted. I don’t think the servos are quite up to what I need. I’ll have to assign someone to working on improving them, but that’s not why you came to my office. What can I do for you, Jordan?”

Realization lit up Jordan’s face. “That’s right! I have finally come up with the solution to the problem that you had me working on.”

Dr. Mechanique leaned back in his chair and and crossed his arms. “You mean coming up with a new alloy to make my prosthetics out of? I thought you were going to bring me a list of options that I could go over.”

A smile filled Jordan’s face and he reached for the box he had put on the counter. “That was what I had been working on for the past week, but then I came across something so superior to the others I’d come up with, I forgot all about the list. I came up with a new alloy made from talmarite, dentheson, and carbon! It’s durable, lightweight, and non corrosive. I was able to whip up a sample of it to show you.” Jordan opened up the box and pulled out a six inch cube of metal.

Dr. Mechanique reached out and took the cube from Jordan and grunted in surprise. “It’s so light! This cube can’t weigh more than two pounds! What do you call this stuff?”

Jordan blushed. “I decided to name it Jordanium, after me. I have the formula for it patented, so your competitors will be completely left in the dust once you start making your prosthetics out of this stuff. I’ve run multiple tests on it, and so far I haven’t even been able to dent the stuff once, and I had it sitting in an acid bath for a day, and it didn’t leave a mark on it.”

Dr. Mechanique nodded his head appreciatively. “I’ll have to run my own tests on it, but this is very impressive, Jordan. I think with something like this to work with, I’ll be able to bring my prosthetics into the future! This discovery of yours is going to make both of us very rich men.”

Jordan’s mouth dropped open. “I didn’t work on this to make money off of it; I did it to help improve people’s lives, like you said that you were.”

Dr. Mechanique laughed. “Of course this is going to improve people’s lives, but we have to be realistic. We can’t just give our advances away, we need the money we get from them to help fund future advances and discoveries. Without funding we wouldn’t be able to help anyone.”

Jordan nodded his head. “That makes sense. So what project would you like me to work on next?”

Dr. Mechanique smiled. “How would you like to start working on improving those servos for me? I need to make them more powerful, and able to move more delicately. Think you’re up to the challenge?”

Jordan smiled back. “Chemistry is more of my field of expertise, but I’ll see what I can do with them.”

Ryan’s eyes slowly opened and he blinked several times. He stretched out his arms and legs as his mouth opened up in a big yawn. He looked over at where Becky was lying next to him and almost fell out of bed when he saw that she was watching him. “Becky, what are you doing awake already?”

Becky smiled. “Good morning, sleepy head. I was just up thinking about all the fun we had last night, and how nice it is to wake up with you beside me.”

Ryan blushed. “I had a great time last night too. I always have a lot of fun when I go out with you.”

Becky snuggled up against Ryan and sighed. “I wish that every morning could be like this, just you and me, together.”

Ryan settled back into the bed. “I wouldn’t mind every morning being like this, if every night could be like last night.”

Becky sat back up and smiled at Ryan. “I’m so happy to hear you say that. Ryan, I want you to move in with me.”

Ryan jumped up and this time he did fall out of the bed. “What? But we just started dating!”

Becky moved over to the side of the bed and laughed at Ryan. “That’s true, but I really like you, and we make such a good couple!” Becky frowned. “Don’t you want to live with me?”

Ryan’s started waving his hands in front of him, and he scrambled up to his feet. “No, that’s not it at all! It just seems so sudden.”

Becky’s frown changed back to a smile. “So that means that you will move in with me?”

Ryan sighed. “I don’t think that it’s a good idea for me to move in with you yet. I already paid for my dorm for the rest of the school year, and I’m still looking for a job, so I wouldn’t be able to help out with rent or anything financial yet.”

Becky shook her head. “Not to worry! I’m sure that you could get the school to refund you for part of what you paid for your dorm, and you paying for rent won’t be a problem! Samantha and I manage just fine, and once you do get a job you can help pay for groceries.”

Ryan sat down on the bed next to Becky. “That’s another thing. Samantha hates me. I dont’ think it would be a very good idea for me to live in the same apartment as her.”

Becky sat up next to Ryan, and grabbed a hold of his arm. “That’s okay, I’ll just kick her out!”

Ryan looked at Becky in shock. “You can do that? Isn’t her name on the lease too? Where would she go?”

Becky frowned. “Technically I can’t do that, but I’m sure she’d be more than happy to move out if you moved in. She’s practically ready to pack her bags and leave now when you are just visiting. Besides, she’s been wanting to move in with her sister for a while now. She’s only in the apartment with me because I asked her to. So what do you think, want to move in with me?”

Ryan’s watch started beeping on the night stand. Saved by the bell! Ryan reached over and grabbed his watch and shut the alarm off. “I have to get going, but we can talk about this more later.” Ryan got up and started scavenging around the room for his clothes.

Tears formed in Becky’s eyes and started to run down her cheeks. She sniffled and said, “You don’t want to move in with me, do you?”

Ryan froze with one leg in his pants, turned and looked at Becky. He let go of the waist of his pants and walked over to Becky, and gave her a big hug. “I didn’t say that. It’s just that this is a big decision, and I want to think about it first. I don’t want to do anything that isn’t in the best interest of our relationship, so just give me a little bit of time to think about it first, okay?”

Becky reached up and wiped away her tears, and nodded her head. “Okay.” Ryan kissed her on the cheek and went back to putting his pants on. “I love you, Ryan.”

Ryan tripped over his pants and fell to the ground. He looked up at Becky. “What did you say?”

Becky smiled at Ryan. “I said I love you.”

Ryan returned the smile weakly. “I, uh, love you too. I have to get going, I’ll talk to you later, Becky.” Ryan finished putting his pants on, got up off of the ground, grabbed his shirt and socks and unlocked the door. He hurried out of the room and closed the door behind him. He sat down on the couch and sighed. “This is getting serious fast.”

Samantha turned around from the stove where she was frying eggs, and fixed Ryan with a scowl. “You better believe this is serious. You’re all she ever talks about, and as much as I dislike you, if you do anything to hurt her I’ll make you regret it.”

Ryan gave Samantha a smile. “Samantha, are you warming up to me? I knew you wouldn’t be able to resist my charms for long.”

Samantha grunted. “Get out of my apartment before come over there and slap you. And put a shirt on!”

Ryan pulled his socks on and stood up and started moving toward the door. “What’s the matter, don’t like what you see? Or is it that you like what you see so much you’re considering pulling that stick out of your butt?”

Samantha picked up an egg and threw it at Ryan’s head, but missed and it crashed into the door instead, splattering egg all over the door and the walls. Ryan turned and looked at the egg, and then turned and gave Samantha a big smile. “What? I haven’t even left yet and you miss me already?”

Samantha shrieked in anger and picked up two more eggs, but Ryan grabbed his shoes and was out the door before she had a chance to throw them.

Ryan sprinted across town, rooftop to rooftop. “Where is the armored car being robbed?”

Jordan’s voice came through the radio tucked in Ryan’s ear. “The truck is at the corner of Fremont and Ameshi. You need to hurry, Ryan. The guards keep calling for backup, I don’t know how much longer they’ll be able to hold up.”

Ryan leapt from one rooftop to another and continued on. “I’m going as fast as I can, they’ll just have to hold out a little bit longer. So, Becky dropped a bit of a surprise on me this morning.”

“Ryan, I don’t want to know about anything that happens in Becky’s bedroom.”

“No, it wasn’t anything like that. She wants me to move in with her.”

Jordan was silent for a few seconds. “Well that didn’t take very long. What did you tell her?”

Ryan sighed. “I told her that I would have to think about it. I’m not sure if I’m ready for that kind of commitment.”

“It would be difficult for you to keep your secret from her if you were living with her. Plus there’s that roommate of her’s. Doesn’t’ she hate you?”

Ryan took a deep breath. “She said she’d kick her roommate out for me, and I’ve been thinking about telling Becky about my secret.”
“I think we should avoid telling people about your secret as much as we can. The more people that know about your secret, the more people that can accidently tell it to the wrong person. Plus knowing your secret would put Becky at risk. If you really care about her, you should be doing your best to keep her as safe as possible.”

Ryan leapt to the next rooftop. “Maybe you’re right. I’d hate to put Becky into any more danger than I have too. Plus it would be awkward having to move back out when Kari and I start dating.”

Jordan groaned. “Ryan, you are so hopeless! You need to pick one girl and stick with her! If you want to be with Kari then you should dump Becky and go to one of Kari’s bible studies! Give it a chance, what do you have to lose?”

Ryan paused on the edge of the rooftop and peered down at two teenagers hopping out of an armored car with their arms full of bags with dollar bills and coins spilling out of them. Two men in security guard uniforms lay unmoving on the sidewalk in pools of blood. “You might want to have an ambulance sent to the robbery, I see two security guards in possible need of medical attention. I’m going in to take care of the robbers.”

“Are you sure that’s a good idea, Ryan? You’ll run the chance of running into the police officers that want to arrest you if I call them now.”

Ryan jumped off of the room and landed on the street, and absorbed some of the pavement. “I’m not too worried about it, it’s just a couple of punk kids that need me to teach them a lesson. This will be over quickly.”

The two teenagers turned and looked at Ryan, and dropped their bags of money to the ground. “Draxx, it’s the Super Morpher! I told you we should’ve gotten out of there sooner!”
The second youth started fumbling for the gun tucked into the back of his pants. “Stop griping and start shooting! That’s the only way we’re getting out of this!”

Ryan ran over to the two teenagers and punched the one going for his gun in the face and he dropped to the ground. Ryan smiled and looked at the other teenager. “Don’t pay any attention to him. There’s no way you’re getting out of this!” The teenager finally pulled his gun out and fired it at Ryan. Ryan ducked under the bullet and swung his fist in an uppercut into the kid’s jaw. Ryan patted his hands together as the kid dropped to the ground. “I told you, this would be over quickly.”

Ryan turned when he heard a thud from behind him, and rocket crashed into Ryan’s chest and exploded, sending Ryan and money flying. Ryan landed on the sidewalk amidst coins that were raining down all around him and the dollar bills that there slowly fluttering down to the ground, some of them were burning slowly. Ryan turned back to normal and a chunk of pavement appeared next to his outstretched hand, which was covered in cuts and bleeding.

Seven men wearing bandanas and leather jackets walked out of an alley way a little further down the street, one of them carrying a rocket launcher with three more rockets strapped to his back. “I told you that the rocket launcher would work! I don’t care how tough that guy is, he didn’t appreciate getting hit with a rocket launcher!”

Another man slapped him on the back of his head. “He may not of appreciated it, Tommy, but he was worth ten million alive!” He pointed at Ryan. “That looks an awful lot like only two million to me.”

The man with the rocket launcher grunted. “Two million split between seven guys is still going to buy us a lot of whatever we want!”

One of the other gang members walked ahead of the others and looked at Ryan, and noticed his chest rising and falling. “Draxx! What is this guy made of? He’s still breathing!”

The man with the rocket launcher smiled and smacked the other guy on the chest. “See? We still get our ten million! Pull him into the alley before any cops show up and we’ll tie him up.” A couple of the gang members walked over to Ryan and picked him up by the arms and the man that had noticed that Ryan was breathing picked him up by the legs, and they carried Ryan across the street and into the alley.

Tommy nodded and set his rocket launcher against the sidewalk. “Let’s get this guy chained up before he wakes up! Brad, where are the chains?”

A large man at the back of the group ran up with a loud clanking noise as the chains wrapped around his body jiggled and banged together. “Right here, Tommy!”

Tommy nodded his head. “Let’s get to work, boys!” The gang members surrounded Ryan and started to wrap the chains around his body. Wherever the chains crossed each other they locked it together.

Ryan’s eyes slowly opened up and he struggled against the chains that wrapped his body. “This is cute, but you had better get these chains off of me right now.”

The gang members started chuckling and Tommy swaggered forward. “Um, I don’t think so. You see, the big boss is going to pay top dollar to have you come visit him, and we’re his delivery service. I’m impressed that you survived that attack, and more so that you’re awake, but even you ain’t bustin out of those chains in your condition.”

Ryan struggled some more and the gang members chuckles turned to laughter. Ryan touched one of the chain links that passed over his arm with the palm of his hand, and the chains disappeared and Ryan’s body turned to metal. Ryan rose to his feet and the laughs died on the lips of the gang members. Ryan turned his head and took in the frightened faces surrounding him. “What’s wrong? Did I ruin your joke somehow? Sorry, how about I tell you different one instead? You guys thought you could take out the Super Morpher!” Ryan’s fist darted out and caught the closest gang member in the stomach and both Ryan and the gang member grunted. The gang member dropped to the ground clutching his stomach and Ryan held onto the arm he had punched with.

Tommy’s face changed from terror to a small smile. “We hurt him! Spread out and let him have it!” Tommy backed down the alley and picked up his rocket launcher and started to load the next rocket into it. The other gang members backed away from Ryan and pulled machine guns out and started to fire at Ryan. Except for Brad, who started running down the alley and kept on running.

Ryan lurched at the men, his teeth clenched and holding in groans of pain, he knocked them out one at a time. Ryan stood at the opposite end of the alley and turned to face the only standing gang member, Tommy. Tommy aimed his rocket launcher at Ryan. “You took them all out, even after we hit you with a rocket! What the heck are you made of?”

Ryan grinned at Tommy. “Good old Zimmdaran steel. Would you like to see?” Ryan pulled his arm back and moved it forward as if he was throwing something, and then halfway through the motion, he changed back to normal. The chain reappeared and flew down the alley at Tommy, and wrapped itself around him. The loose ends of the chain smacked him in the face and the rocket launcher slipped from Tommy’s hand as he collapsed to the ground.

Ryan dropped down to his knees and breathed heavily through clenched teeth. “Jordan, I have six gang members down that attacked me, and I’ll be chasing down a seventh shortly. Thanks for the suit again, I’m pretty sure it just saved my life.” Ryan listened for Jordan’s reply, but heard nothing. Ryan sighed. “That rocket must have damaged the radio again. That’s the second time this week! Guess I’ll just have to remember to thank him later.” Ryan slowly got back up to his feet, and looked down the alley, but couldn’t see any sign of Brad, the seventh gang member, anywhere. “I’m not in any condition to chase anyone.” Ryan limped down the alley and picked up the rocket launcher and snapped it between his hands. “That won’t be hurting anyone else.” Ryan turned and started limping down the alley, clutching his side.
